Config Backup Plugin Updated… To Backup More Configuration Settings (Version 20090606.002)
Update: A newer version of this plugin is now available. |
My recently released backup plugin helps you backup your Lightroom configuration files and compress Lightroom generated catalog backup files. To access these features you use one of the new menu items it adds to the File menu’s Plug-in Extras sub-menu.
- Customisable Configuration Backups – Allows you to customise and manually trigger the backup and compression processes
- 1-Click Configuration Backup – Immediately backs up the Lightroom configuration files and Catalog backups using your previously configured settings, and optionally displays the results of the backup process.
Due to the vagaries of my own personal experience, namely recent Blue Screens Of Death that corrupted my Lightroom preferences file, I focused on backing up that file and forgot to include presets, plugins and other important pieces of the Lightroom configuration information. The latest release will now backup all of these and more.

Hi
Thanks for your plugin, it’s great.
A nice improvement will be to add an update button directly in your plugin like in Jeffrey Friedl’s plugins.
@Nohant, Thanks for the comment. With each plugin I develop I’m slowly building up my common plugin infrastructure and libraries, but it will be a while before I will have as sophisticated an update infrastructure as Jeffrey. With any luck (and more feature requests) Adobe will introduce some of those capabilities into the LR3 SDK itself! Otherwise I will work on this myself but it will take time. I’m trying to focus on the content first and the trimmings later, so to speak.
Yeap, I understand but maybe you can ask some help from Jeffrey as he has share his code with Timothy Armes http://www.timothyarmes.com/metoyou.php?lang=en-gb&sec=tools. It’s just a suggestion.
Thanks again for your work
Have a nice day
@Nohant, Jeffrey and I have shared code etc in the past. He is very helpful and the developer community really benefits from his input. Its just a matter of prioritisation. I’m in the middle of adding Plugin Info to my work in progress plugin but I won’t look into automatic updating of versions until after I’ve released at least one version of that plugin. Having too much fun learning just enough javascript to be dangerous!
Matt,
Is it correct that Config BU does not overwrite older BU ZIOP files it creates. User should just zap the older files themselves?
Rich
@Rich, Yes, the plugin doesn’t clean up older backup zip files for you. You will need to delete the older backups yourself when you no longer require them. Backup retention periods/patterns can vary significantly from person to person so I didn’t tackle that particular issue and make the UI even more complicated in the process.

Hi,
I tried the plugin but it failed with the message: An internal error occured: bad argument #1 to ‘pathComponents'(string expected, got nil)
Can you help me fixing this?
Cheers,
Joop
@Joop, do you still have the log file generated by the plugin? It will be in your My Documents folder on Windows, and the Documents folder for your user on a Mac. If you have it please mail it through and I’ll see what I can do.
